Fränz & Jaeger delivers and installs the 500th rail mounted IPC.

Rail mounted IPCs are a proven alternative to classic PLCs within the industrial environment.
Meanwhile more than 500 devices of the lines Think-IO (Kontron based), IPC-C 870, and IPC-P 874 (WAGO) are used.

Similary to the PLC I/O clamps are directly connected to the CPU baseunit.

The software is based on an realtimekernal with CODESYS runtime-system.

The system is free programmable according to IEC61131 with well known dialects :
(IL instruction list;LD ladderdiagram,FBD function block diagram,SFC seqeutial function chart,ST Structured text)

Unlike the PLC , the devices feature a real time operating system Anders als die SPS (LINUX). Therefore
less time critical or more complex applications can be implemented, for example, in python.
All units feature an WEB server. The user interface runs in every browser or on mobil devices. Separate touch panels can usually be saved.

Herr Fränz: "If you want automate inexpensive and internet-capable should use IPCs.
Industrie 4.0 is based on exactly these techniques. The classical PLC has less capacity is more cumbersome to program and the TCO is significantly higher."

In 2000 Fränz & Jaeger installed the first rail mounted IPC. Then were the first flashdrives on the market. A 32MegaByte ! SSD then costs around 600 Euro. But the premise was "no moving parts". The devices are now in use for 14 years without interruption

Meanwhile, the third generation is supplied. The know how wich is hidden in the software could be used further.

After 500 devices we can state: "This is the right way".

The new ReVis NFC App is available at Google Play Store.

The ReVis APP App costs round 1 EUR (Base Edition no Ads).

Reads information form ReVis tags by NFC.

Changes informations and stores it back to the tag.

One use case is the storage of equipment or machinery data for regular maintenance.

ReVis tags are available at Fränz & Jaeger.



CODESYS with PDF Viewer



The CoDeSys 2.3 WEB-visualisation is only suitable for displaying fixed grafics (bitmaps). These grafics are to be installed on the controller beforehand.

Displaying any vendor specifc grafics or texts or mutable grafics at runtime is not provided in the standard.

Due to a customer inquiry Fränz & Jaeger has addressed the problem and developed its own PDF PlugIn.

With the help of this PlugIn PDF files can now be displayed in any window within the WEB visualisation.

The name of the displayed file is managed in CoDeSys and can be changed at runtime!

This dynamic display of any graphics is possible for the first time.

The displayed PDF files can be stored on a server or on the display system. The controller remains completely free and unloaded.

The PDF-viewer clears the way for displaying multi-page documents, manuals, wiring diagrams, or product information.

The system is runnable on CoDeSys 2.3 based controllers with sufficient memory capacity. It is tested successfully on WAGO products:

Controller 750-880 , IPC 758-874 and PFC200 750-8206

Wago e!COCKPIT in production

Recently Fränz & Jaeger installed first big e!COCKPIT project.

e!COCKPIT is the new CODESYS3 based integrated programmingsystem developed by WAGO.

The application:

The sorting machine at LIBRI (Bad Hersfeld) sorts over 10000 item a day to 42 relations.

The control system takes the tasks:

  • Image capture from 3 Sides
  • omnidirectional barcode scaning
  • measurement
  • weighting
  • labeling
  • control scaning
  • sorting

The products are tracked on the conveyor accurate to within a centimeter. Thereby correct sorting is ensured.

The installation is controled by 5 PFC200 controllers . A WEB capable visualisation is included.

The visualisation shows each controler detail, from light barrier to drives. This makes very fast reactions to malfunktions possible.

Allthough the remote maintanance from Fränz & Jaeger is realized by a safe VPN conection.

The pervious CODESYS 2 based solution was ported to e!COCKPIT successfully. We needed a wekend to finish the installation on site.

The replacement was nessesary because the visalisation was based on the deprecated JAVA-Plugin.

The customer has now a faster browser (JS/HTML) solution. This is furthermore usabel on mobile devices (Tablet/Phone).

Herr Fränz has a summary:

"e!COCKPIT has shown that it is now possible to realize big projects including a mass of different interfaces, as there are AS-Interface, seriell, analog or network. The old-fashioned visualisation can now be replaced with current standards and a fresh design. We are pleased to build up further projetcs with e!COCKPIT."
